Visio Companion app

Visio Companion is the companion app for EGO1 (Android and HarmonyOS today; iOS planned). It pairs over Wi-Fi or USB and gives you live preview, recording control, device settings, cloud upload configuration, and a recording browser.

The headset records on its own — you don't need the app to capture, and the device also serves its own setup page in any browser. Use the app when you want the full set of controls.

Install the app

  1. Download the Visio Companion app from gilabs.xyz/products/mobile-apps (also on the Downloads page).
  2. On your phone, open the installer. If you're prompted about installing from an "unknown source," allow it for your browser / file manager as the system prompts.

Connect to the device

  1. Power the device (see Quick start). If it has no Wi-Fi network to join, it broadcasts an open Wi-Fi hotspot named GILABS-XXXXXXXX — the device's own 8-character code, which the app also shows as its name.
  2. In your phone's system Wi-Fi settings, connect to that network.
    • It's an open hotspot (no password). Your phone may warn "this network has no internet access" — that's normal. Choose stay connected / keep using this network.
  3. Open Visio Companion and tap Add device. The app scans USB, this Wi-Fi, and nearby setup hotspots at once; tap your device to pair it.

Once the device is on your own Wi-Fi network you can skip the hotspot entirely — see Connect, preview & capture.

What the app gives you

  • Live preview — the left and right stereo views plus live IMU orientation, to confirm framing and set the mount pitch.
  • Recording control — start / stop capture, and attach metadata (task, location, capturer, and a free-text message); the phone adds GPS coordinates.
  • Device settingscamera resolution and video bitrate, and on EGO1GS the audio recording and recording reminder toggles.
  • Cloud upload — point the device at your own S3 or Aliyun OSS bucket and turn on auto-upload. See Cloud upload.
  • Device Wi-Fi — have the device join your network, manage its saved networks, or reset it back to its own hotspot.
  • Telemetry — recording state, elapsed time, remaining SD-card space, and the upload queue.
  • Recording browser — sessions on the device's card, on this phone, and already uploaded to your bucket.
  • Scan settings — apply a whole configuration at once from a QR code. See Cloud upload → Provisioning a fleet with a QR code.
  • Firmware upgrade — download and install firmware. See OTA firmware upgrade.
One phone at a time

Only one phone can control a device at once. If the app shows Device in use, disconnect the other phone and pull down to refresh.

Preview is for checking, not for saving

Live preview is only for confirming the shot. Your data is whatever is recorded to the MicroSD card — the preview stream is not the saved data. If the preview looks choppy, see the FAQ.

Recording

Capture can be started and stopped three ways, and they're interchangeable:

  • The physical record switch on the device — a maintained switch, so its position also decides whether the device records at power-up.
  • The app, from the device screen.
  • The device's setup page, in any browser.

See Connect, preview & capture for the full sequence.
