Visio Companion app

Visio Companion is the optional companion app for EGO1 (Android today; iOS planned). It pairs over Wi-Fi and gives you live preview, start / stop control, disk telemetry, and a recording browser.

The headset records on its own — you don't need the app to capture. Use it when you want live visibility or manual control.

Install the app​

  1. Download the Visio Companion Android app from gilabs.xyz/products/mobile-apps (also on the Downloads page).
  2. On your Android phone, open the installer. If you're prompted about installing from an "unknown source," allow it for your browser / file manager as the system prompts.

Connect to the device​

  1. Power the device (see Quick start). It broadcasts a Wi-Fi hotspot named GILABS-XXXXXX, where XXXXXX is the last 6 characters of the device's serial.
  2. In your phone's system Wi-Fi settings, connect to that GILABS-XXXXXX network.
    • It's an open hotspot (no password). Your phone may warn "this network has no internet access" — that's normal. Choose stay connected / keep using this network.
  3. Open Visio Companion and tap Add Device. The app discovers and connects to the device automatically (gateway 192.168.4.1).

What the app gives you​

  • Live preview — see the left and right stereo views and live IMU orientation, to confirm framing, focus, and composition.
  • Recording control — start / stop capture, and toggle the capture mode (always-on vs. app-controlled). You can also attach metadata like task name, location, and notes; the phone adds GPS coordinates.
  • Disk telemetry — recording state, elapsed time, and remaining SD-card space.
  • Recording browser — browse the sessions stored on the device.
Getting recordings onto your PC

Wi-Fi and the app are for live preview and control. To copy recorded files off the device, use the MicroSD card — see Retrieve & view data.

Preview is for checking, not for saving

Live preview is only for confirming the shot. Your data is whatever is recorded to the MicroSD card — the preview stream is not the saved data. If the preview looks choppy, see the FAQ.

Recording​

EGO1 has no physical record button. Recording is:

  • Always-on — capture begins the moment the device powers on.
  • App-controlled — start / stop from Visio Companion, and toggle the capture mode (always-on vs. app-controlled).
