Know your device
A tour of the EGO1 hardware and what each part does. Everything here applies to both variants except where EGO1GS is called out — see EGO1/EGO1GS for the full comparison.
Parts
- Stereo cameras — the two forward-facing lenses that capture the left and right video channels. Keep them clean and unobstructed while wearing the device. On EGO1GS these are global-shutter cameras, so fast head movement produces no skew or wobble.
- 9-DoF IMU — tracks head pose (accel + gyro + mag). Nothing to operate.
- Record switch — a two-position switch: flip it one way to start recording, the other way to stop. It's a maintained switch, so its position is the source of truth even at power-up — a device switched to record starts capturing the moment it has power, with no phone involved.
- Status LED — on the back of the device. Solid when the device is powered and idle; blinking about once a second while a recording is running.
- USB-C cable — the tethered cable that powers the device. Plug it into any USB power source to turn it on. It also carries data, so you can reach the device over USB and read the SD card without removing it.
- MicroSD card slot — holds the card that recordings are written to.
- GoPro-compatible mount — the headband mount lets you adjust the pitch to match your natural sight line. Set it while watching live preview rather than by guesswork.
On EGO1GS only:
- Microphones — two of them, capturing stereo audio alongside the video. Whether audio is included in recordings is a toggle in the app.
- Speaker — speaks short status notices out loud so the wearer gets feedback without looking at a phone. You'll hear it confirm the device is ready, when recording starts and stops, and when something is wrong — no SD card, card full, write error, network error.
Live status (preview, recording state, remaining space, upload queue) is viewed in the Visio Companion app or on the device's own setup page.
Power, record, and power down
- Insert the SD card (see SD cards) while the device is unpowered.
- Connect the tethered USB cable to any USB power source — a wall charger, a power bank, or a computer's USB port all work. The device powers on as soon as it has power and the status LED lights up. On EGO1GS you'll hear it say it's ready.
- Start recording: flip the record switch, or start it from the app or the device's setup page. The LED starts blinking.
- When finished, stop recording the same way, wait for the recording to save, then disconnect USB power.
Order matters
Stop the recording and let it save before removing power. Disconnecting power mid-write can corrupt or lose that recording. Insert and remove the SD card only while the device is unpowered.
