11. Firmware release notes
This page records the user-visible changes in each Ego firmware release. The two hardware models have separate firmware lines; go by the model and version the device's upgrade page shows.
The newest release documented in the 2026-10-09 manual is v1.1.6 for both EGO1GS and EGO1
(released 2026-10-01). Upgrade from the
app — see 4. Phone app & web preview → Firmware upgrade (OTA).
Firmware is not interchangeable between EGO1 (ego_v2) and EGO1GS (audio_ego_v3); pick the hardware model
first. Releases marked deprecated below should not be installed.
EGO1GS · v1.1.6 · 2026-10-01
New
- Bluetooth control with app 1.1.6: enable in Device settings to start / stop recording and change settings. Preview, recording copies, and updates still need Wi-Fi or USB. Off by default.
- With app 1.1.6, copy recordings to a phone or delete them from the device over USB or Wi-Fi; unavailable while recording.
- Support for Report a problem and Request repair, including SD fault diagnostics to distinguish card and device problems.
- Per-frame exposure information in recordings for more precise video / IMU alignment.
Improved
- Thermal protection pauses cloud upload and live preview without interrupting recording; both resume after cooling.
- Brief camera outages recover without interrupting recording. If recovery fails, the device saves and ends the recording and announces why. Resolve the cause, then move the switch O → I.
- The setup hotspot selects the least busy available 5 GHz channel.
- Invalid individual calibration fields no longer invalidate all calibration data.
- New recordings cannot start during firmware image transfer.
- More stable long-running operation.
Fixed
- Unexpected device restarts interrupted recordings.
- Dropped frames in both cameras together, approximately every 30 minutes with a phone connected, during phone reconnection or settings changes, and during cloud upload.
- Voice notices sometimes stopped for the rest of a boot.
- Short recordings could be lost entirely after power loss; recovery now usually loses only the last few seconds.
- On some SD cards, power loss left unreadable session metadata or extra files in recording folders.
- Cloud uploads now follow recording order.
- After Mac file operations on an SD card, uploaded recordings could remain listed and recording metadata could be read incorrectly.
EGO1 · v1.1.6 · 2026-10-01
The previous supported release was v1.1.2; v1.1.5 is deprecated. This release includes all subsequent updates.
Upgrading from v1.1.2: a switch already at I during power-on no longer starts recording automatically. Move it to O, then back to I.
New
- With app 1.1.6, copy recordings to a phone or delete them from the device over USB or Wi-Fi; unavailable while recording.
- Problem reports and repair requests, including SD fault diagnostics.
- Recording encryption.
- Google Cloud Storage and Azure Blob upload destinations.
- Delete SD recordings from a computer over USB.
- Disable recording location tagging in app Settings → Location.
- Per-frame exposure information for video / IMU alignment.
Improved
- Recording will not start without camera or IMU data; prolonged SD write failure ends a recording.
- Brief camera outages recover without interruption. If recovery fails, the device saves and ends recording; resolve the cause, then move the switch O → I.
- Smoother Wi-Fi preview; the hotspot selects the least busy available 5 GHz channel.

- Short recordings lost after power loss; recovery now usually loses only the last few seconds.
- Uploads out of recording order.
- Formatting failures on full SD cards and failure to recognize GPT-partitioned cards.
- Recording folders appearing empty over USB.
- Camera recovery failures after slow startup, such as after a firmware update.
- Incorrect recording lists and metadata after Mac file operations on an SD card.
EGO1GS · v1.1.5 · 2026-09-17
Includes all v1.1.4 changes; v1.1.4 is deprecated.
Upgrading directly from v1.1.3: since v1.1.4, a switch already at I during power-on does not start recording. Move it to O, then back to I.
Fixed
session.jsoncould be unreadable if power was removed soon after stopping; the.mcaprecordings were unaffected.- Removed the extra
device_log_start.txtanddevice_log_stop.txtfiles introduced in v1.1.4. - The setup hotspot disappeared after joining 5 GHz Wi-Fi; hotspot and Wi-Fi can now operate together.
EGO1 · v1.1.5 · 2026-09-17 (deprecated)

- Hotspot failures and repeated restarts after joining saved Wi-Fi, including 5 GHz.
- Formatting full SD cards and recognizing / formatting GPT-partitioned cards.
- Empty recording folders over USB.
- Camera recovery after slow startup, including after a firmware update.
EGO1GS · v1.1.4 · 2026-09-15 (deprecated)
Superseded by v1.1.5; v1.1.6 is the newest release documented in this manual.
Improved
- More stable continuous recording with fewer dropped frames.
- More reliable OTA: recording starts reliably after updates and hand detection remains available.
Fixed
- Sensor failures (such as missing IMU data) no longer produce recordings lacking sensor data; recording stops promptly to avoid corruption.
- All recording files appear correctly in folders accessed over USB.
EGO1GS · v1.1.3 · 2026-08-26
New
- Recording encryption: bind a recording key to the device and recordings are written to the SD card as ciphertext, unreadable without the key. How to enable and read: 12. Recording encryption.
- Hand detection: recognize the left and right hands while recording and save the result in the file alongside the video; toggled in the app at any time, off by default. See 13. Hand detection.
- Cloud upload adds Google Cloud Storage and Azure Blob, alongside Aliyun OSS, AWS S3 and Tencent COS.
Improved
- Long recordings are noticeably more stable: 60 minutes of continuous recording with stereo preview, hand detection, voice notices and cloud upload all on, with no dropped frames.
- Lower peak load, so the device runs cooler over long recordings.
Fixed
- The setup hotspot restarting repeatedly when a phone reconnected, which briefly dropped frames in the recording.
- Occasional dropped frames during recording in specific situations.
EGO1GS · v1.1.2 · 2026-08-13
Fixed
- A brand-new device, or one that had never been configured for Wi-Fi, could fail to show its setup hotspot, making it impossible to connect with the app. The device now always brings up the setup hotspot.
Improved
- The setup hotspot picks a usable 5 GHz channel automatically and falls back to 2.4 GHz when none is available, so a phone can always connect.
EGO1 · v1.1.2 · 2026-08-13
Improved
- The setup hotspot now supports 5 GHz, for a smoother phone preview and less heat; use a phone that supports 5 GHz to connect to it. Falls back to 2.4 GHz when no 5 GHz channel is available.
EGO1GS · v1.1.1 · 2026-08-12
Do not install this release.
Fixed
- The IMU-to-image time-alignment offset introduced in v1.1.0: timestamps are back within 2 ms of each other. Recording, frame rate and data integrity were never affected. Devices calibrated at the factory on older releases do not need this upgrade.
EGO1 · v1.1.1 · 2026-08-11
Optional upgrade.
Improved
- IMU output rate 200 → 201 Hz, holding steadily above 200 Hz in testing.
EGO1GS · v1.1.0 · 2026-08-10
Do not install this release.
New
- Voice-notice volume is adjustable from the app: the device speaks at the new volume as you adjust, so one pass finds the right level; 0 is silent.
- Cloud upload adds Tencent COS, alongside Aliyun OSS and AWS S3.
- A brand-new, unpartitioned SD card can be initialized with the app's Format SD card — no computer needed.
Improved
- Noticeably lower overall load, so long recordings with stereo preview are more stable and run cooler.
- Much faster boot: the wait from power-on to ready is far shorter.
- The setup hotspot moved to the 5 GHz band for a smoother phone preview; use a 5 GHz-capable phone.
- Faster reconnection after a phone disconnects; the device is no longer held for a long time by a connection that has already gone.
- When uploading a recording to the cloud, the completion marker (
session.json) is written only after every file of that recording has uploaded, so a complete upload is easy to confirm. - The installer is checked against the device before a firmware upgrade starts, avoiding mid-way failures.
Fixed
- Voice notices with the first words clipped, unclear, or missing entirely.
- Possible data loss in a recording when a firmware upgrade was started mid-recording.
- Some devices repeatedly reporting insufficient storage and then being unable to upgrade.
- In rare cases the IMU stream stopped and did not recover; it now recovers within about 0.5 s.
