1. Know your device

This chapter introduces the main parts of EGO1 / EGO1GS and how to wear the headset.

Main parts

  • Stereo cameras: the two forward-facing lenses that capture the left and right video channels. Keep them clean and unobstructed while wearing the device.
  • Head-pose sensor (IMU): records head orientation and rotation. Nothing to operate.
  • USB cable: the cable that comes out of the device, carrying both power and data. Plug it into any USB power source and the device is on. Never pull hard on it or lift the device by the cable, or the cable will be damaged.
  • Record switch: the physical switch on the body. Flip it to I (on) to start recording and to O (off) to stop.
  • Power indicator: solid once the device has powered on; blinking while a recording is running, so you can confirm capture is live at a glance.
  • SD card slot: recordings are written to the card inserted here.

Additional parts on EGO1GS

  • Stereo microphones: record two-channel audio in sync with the video.
  • Built-in speaker (voice notices): device ready, recording start / stop, full or missing SD card, write errors, network errors, and recording stopped by overheating are spoken aloud. With hand detection enabled, it also reports hands leaving the frame, so the wearer can confirm the device's state without looking at a screen.

Wearing it

An elastic fabric headband, designed for continuous all-day wear. The bracket lets you fine-tune the camera angle so the field of view covers the work area.

Safety
  • Stop recording, then unplug. Flip the record switch to O and let the recording finish saving before you disconnect power, or some recorded data may be lost.
  • Insert or remove the SD card only while the device is unpowered.
  • Protect the cable. Never pull hard on the USB cable or lift the device by it. Route the cable behind the head and secure it, so a head turn cannot tear it out.

The bracket has a GoPro-compatible mount. Set the pitch while watching live preview rather than by guesswork. Live status (preview, recording state, remaining space, upload queue) is shown in the Visio Companion app or on the device's own setup page.
